Repairs are underway to fix a sinkhole in Marble Hill.
Exterior Street between West 225th Street and Broadway is closed as the Department of Environmental Protection works to make repairs underground that caused the road to open up Thursday morning.
The leak is coming from an old water tap that's no longer in use.
The DEP says the tap was for a business that is no longer active, and the connection to the water main came loose.
Cars navigated around the sinkhole in the middle of Exterior Street as it began to fill with water on Thursday morning. The Department of Environmental Protection arrived shortly after and immediately began repairs. The NYPD was seen towing cars away that were parked near the hole.
"It was like a swimming pool," said Francine Richbow, who lives nearby.
People who live in the Marble Hill Houses say they tried to find parking on other blocks in the meantime, but they are glad no one was hurt and no cars were damaged.
NYCHA says water service was not impacted for residents in the Marble Hill Houses.
