Sweltering day with a few showers and storms tonight for The Bronx

Here’s what you need to know:

It's a warm, sunny and muggy start to the day. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 70s.
Today will be sweltering under a partly sunny sky. Highs will be in the upper 80s, near 90 degrees. The air quality is at moderate levels this afternoon. It will continue to improve over the next few days as rain moves through the borough and winds shift towards the northwest.
A few spotty showers/storms arrive after 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. There's an isolated risk of strong to severe storms with damaging winds being the primary threat. The front will stall nearby bringing more rounds of hit or miss showers and storms tomorrow evening.
Temperatures fall back to the 80s on Friday with lower humidity. This weekend will be sunny, hot with increasing humidity. There's a chance of a stray t-storm Sunday night. Stay tuned for changes!
TRACKING THE TROPICS: We're currently monitoring three areas of interest in the Atlantic basin. Tropical Storm Erin continues its western path North of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. It is forecast to intensify to a category 1 hurricane later today and become major cat 3 hurricane by Sunday. There's still a lot of uncertainty on the path early next week, but most of the models are suggesting off the Eastern seaboard of the US. This storm can bring dangerous rip currents to our ocean facing beaches by next week. Stay tuned for changes. The other two tropical disturbances has a low chance of further development in the Northwestern/the gulf over the next 7 days. Stay tuned for updates!
