A local lawmaker is expressing disappointment after seeing trash scattered at near Yankee Stadium.
Assemblymember Chantel Jackson said she stopped by Macombs Dam Park Monday and saw trash on the track.
"I was so appalled at the fact that I was walking through garbage," said Jackson. "So I made it around one lap and then I came back and I was like I can’t leave with it like that."
Jackson decided to help a couple of workers she saw cleaning and also picked up trash throughout the park.
"I frequent this park," she said. "I literally walk around the track and take meetings so I’m not sitting at home. But I shouldn’t have to walk through garbage to enjoy this track."
All the trash was gone from the track the following day but some visitors said it’s not unusual to see trash there, especially when there’s a game.
"During the weekend, they leave a lot of mess and by Monday midday everything‘s all cleared up and it’s all good," said Edward Brown.
A spokesperson from the city's Parks Department said workers make sure Macombs Dam is free of trash and debris on a daily basis and confirmed the park is one of the locations getting additional maintenance service in the evenings and weekends.
